No winter drumline!!!!

As some of you have heard by now, there is no winter drumline this year. We simply did not have enough people sign up to participate in the activity. For those of you that attended the meeting, you may have noticed that there were not many people there. We really needed about 20 participants and we were at least 5 short of that number and that is if I count people who were not sure if they were going to do join or not.
I made the decision to cancel the drumline this season after additional attempts at recruiting failed. I also tried to come up with some alternatives but nothing was truly viable to maintain the goal of the program.
For those that were excited to have participate and have a great season, I am truly sorry that this has happened. I fully intend on having a winter drumline next year. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me and I will be happy to talk with you.
Thanks,
Chuck

If you can not attend the rehearsal you need to contact me and let me know. So far I am expecting all of the pit to be in attendance as I have not heard from anyone saying that they cannot make it.

June rehearsal schedule

Here is the June drumline rehearsal schedule.

Please remember that these rehearsals are for the entire drumline, both pit and battery. Also, these rehearsals are NOT optional. I understand that some families may have vacations scheduled. If that is the case, I need an email or note to let me know what rehearsals will be missed. Family vacations and school sports are the only excused absences from these rehearsals. Work is NOT excused. If you have a job you need to tell your employer that you need these time off. If you have questions please contact me ASAP. All members are responsible for keeping up with the music and memorization when they miss rehearsal.

These rehearsals are VERY important to the success of the drumline and the band. During these rehearsals we continue to work on warm-ups and technique. We also start to learn other cadences for parades and football games. Then, we start work on the marching band show. It is important that we get this head start on the rest of the band so that we can help to keep the band together in the rehearsals before band camp.

Schedule:
Tues 5th- 6:00p-8:30p
Tues 12th-6:00p-8:30p
Wed 13th- 6:00p-8:30p
Tues 19th-6:00p-8:30p
Wed 20th-6:00p-8:30p

A Few Things

I just wanted to take a moment and go over a few things we talked about on Sunday.

We will now be enforcing all of the discipline rules we went over at the start of the season. To review:

1. 10 pushups will be given for every minute that someone is late to rehearsal unexcused. The pushups will be done by the entire section. The individual that was late will do an additional 10 pushups. Note: this does not mean walking in the door right on time. This means having your instrument set up and ready to go at the start of the rehearsal. I would highly advise arriving about 15 minutes early. So if rehearsal starts at 7:00, you should be at the school no later than 6:45. This will allow you time to get your instrument ready, as well as help get the tarp set up. This has been a MAJOR problem so far this season. I truly believe that we have not started 1 rehearsal on time yet this season.

2. Playing/marching beyond the point that you are instructed to stop will result in 10 pushups for that individual. I always announce the measure we are starting and ending several times, this means you must listen to instructions.

3. Hacking(playing when you are not supposed to) will not longer be tolerated at any level. Hacking is disrupting to the entire group. Instructions and critique can not be effectively given or received. Hacking will also result in 10 pushups.

These rules are NOT new. They have always been in place, but simply not enforced as they should be. It is also important that the leaders withing the group step-up. You must set a good example for others to follow.

If you have any questions please fell free to contact me.

Also, if a student is leaving a contest early, I can only release the student to his/her parents. That is school policy and is the same rules as during marching band.

No rehearsal tonight Tuesday Jan 24th

I did not realize there was a pep band game tonight, so since at least some of you need to be at the game, there will be no rehearsal tonight.

Also, a reminder that we do not have rehearsal this Thursday or Sunday. See you next Tuesday!! Please practice your music, and if possible try to get a sectional or two going!

Thanks
Chuck

19 January 2012

No rehearsal Thursday Jan 19th

In case you haven't heard yet, no rehearsal tonight. See you all Sunday!

12 January 2012

No Rehearsal ThursdayJan. 12th

Due to the weather forecast saying the rain will change to snow and the temperature dropping, we will not have rehearsal tonight. They are saying the roads will become very bad due to ice and then a little snow and blowing snow. This is all supposed to happen around 6 or 7. That could make the drive home from rehearsal VERY bad, and due to the timing of the change in weather, I would rather play it safe and just not have rehearsal. See you Sunday!
